Rings, from the outside in

Forex and gold trade almost around the clock on weekdays. Crypto never closes.

    Markets

    Three markets we teach

    Forex

You trade one currency against another, such as the euro against the US dollar. Interest rates and economic news move the price.

Sunday 17:00 to Friday 17:00, New York time.

    Crypto

You trade digital assets on exchanges that never close. Prices can move sharply at any hour, including weekends.

    Every day, all day.

    Gold and commodities

You trade gold, oil and other raw materials. Supply, demand and the US dollar move the price.

Gold and oil: Sunday 18:00 to Friday 17:00, New York time, with a break from 17:00 to 18:00 each day.

Typical hours. Holidays and brokers differ.

    Read a chart

    A chart, marked up

    Simulated prices, for learning
    1. One candle, four prices

Each candle covers one period. It shows where the price opened, the highest and lowest it reached, and where it closed.

    2. Many candles, one direction

Higher highs and higher lows make an uptrend. The moving average, here the mean of the last 8 closes, smooths out the noise so the direction is easier to see.

    3. Where price turned before

Support is a level where falling prices have turned up. Resistance is a level where rising prices have turned down. Neither is guaranteed to hold.

    4. Decide where you are wrong first

Before you enter, pick the price that says your idea was wrong. That is your stop. Your target and your position size follow from it.

    Practice

    Now read one yourself

    Simulated DEMO 1,000.00 0.00%

Each candle is one period: where the price opened, the highest and lowest it reached, and where it closed. Hollow candles closed higher than they opened; filled candles closed lower.

Prices are simulated in your browser. Not a real market, and not a signal to buy or sell.

    Your risk

Know your risk before you trade

Put in your own numbers. The calculator works out how much to trade so that hitting your stop costs only what you chose to risk.

    Example values. Change them.

    Position size (units)
    2
    Amount at risk
    10
    Stop distance
    5
    Direction
    Long

This leaves out spread, fees and slippage. It is arithmetic, not a recommendation.
